About 35,000 years ago, the "Hetao Culture" created by the ancient Hetao people madeOrdos one of the birthplaces of human civilization. From 1600 B.C. to 1100 B.C., Ordos' "Bronze Culture" was further example ofthis splendid history. Looking at the a traffic thoroughfare in the Qin Dynasty that ran from south to the north of Ordos, onecanfind Emperor Yingzheng's special attention to the strategic fortresses in Ordos. In the Western Han Dynasty, a song named"Zhaojun Departs For the Frontier" dealt with the pacification through marriage between the Xiongnu and Han. Beautiful storiescultivated the places of Zhaojun Grave and Zhaojun Tomb. The Tong Wancheng site, capital of Daxia Kingdom in Northern and Southern Dynasties still stand in the wide forest of south Ordos as a testament to the immortality of history. The site of Shengzhou City also tells of the splendor of the Sui and Tang Dynasties. The Mausoleum of Genghis Khan, located in the Ejin Horo Bannerin the central area of Ordos City, 65 kilometers away from Dongsheng District and situated in high Gandeer Hill, became a memorialplacefor the hero to receive the respect of later generations.

Theadvantage ofabundant resources and leading operational idea not only opened Ordos' doors but also accelerated the urbanization ofOrdos City.In 2001, the State Council approved to the change of "Yikezhao League" to "Ordos City". Young Ordos City contains limitlessvital forces and charms.

Thetotalarea of coal seams with the vertical depth of more than 800 meters exceeds 10,000 km2. Proven D-grade reserves exceeded 80 billion tons. The totalthickness of minable coal seams is often between 16 to 20 meters, and the thickness increases from north tosouth. The coalfield boasts a simple structure, excellent quality and the ash content is usually less than 10%. The coalmainlycontains non-caking coal, and then long flame coal. Low ash content and high caloric value made Dongsheng Coalfield become famous at home and abroad. Many of the country's key power plants were established with Ordos' coal resources, which transmit tremendous power to various large cities in China. At the beginning of the new century, Ordos will surely change from a large city engaged in coal prospecting into a large city engaged in coal processing. It will transmit electricity from the west to the east andcarry out coal processing. Currently, Ordos is making active efforts to develop into a modern energy-based city.
